One of the most asked questions online when building a website is how to get quality traffic from search engines. You may think just updating your blog on a regular basic will get you more quality traffic from search engines. Sure, if you update your blog on a regular basic you will receive traffic, if and only if your post are index correctly in the search engines. When people build websites they either have something to say are they want to make a profit from their website. Nothing's wrong with any of that, the problem is just getting a little search engine traffic to your website. To do so you must SEO (search engine optimize) your blog, so that search engines understand how to categorizes your website in their index.

- viewer discretion is advised -
Let me first say that a lot of blogs write post on bull-sh*t, when I first started blogging I hate reading about other people experiences, and the false stories they tell you and never really get to the point. Getting the Search Engines to recognize your website.

Basically if you want more traffic from search engines they must know how to categorize and handle your website articles/posts. In order for search engines to understand our articles/post, we must add simple code to our websites/blogs. This simple code is called Microdata Markup and Schema is the new language some major search engines are focusing on. To sum this all up their is more than one search engine in the world and of course more than one markup language, Schema was made with the idea so that it will be the only markup data we webmasters add to our site so all search engines eventually understand how to categorize our articles/posts. But if you are interested read the official article from Google Webmaster Blog [Introducing schema.org: Search engines come together for a richer web

Schema.org and why you should use it.

Schema.org is a project by Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. A collaboration to help provide a richer web, and like I said earlier, so that all major search engines can rely on a shared markup vocabulary.

You should use Schema.org simply to help search engine recognize and categorize your website, in rich the web and to simply gain traffic.

Channel.me Has Potential But Can It Deliver

Channel.me Has Potential But Can It Deliver?

Ever wanted to surf the same site simultaneously with friends on different computers? Well, Channel.me attempts to solve this issue through a rather interesting way. In essence, the site creates a “channel” that you can then share with other people online. Through this channel (which will have a URL looking like “channel.me/random#’s”), you can surf to other sites through clicking links on the current page and using Google searches. There are quite a few nice features that Channel.me has added, but there are also a few concerning bugs that desperately need fixing as well.

The Nice Features
There were a few features for Channel.me that impressed me immediately. They include the following:
• No sign-up and no download. All you have to do is click the button pictured, and the site will create a channel for you. This is a huge convenience that will surely attract a lot of users.

• Invite friends via link (or email or Facebook). There are a number of ways to get your friends on your channel. You can email them through the channel interface, find them on Facebook (requires you to log through the channel), or just instant message them with a link. By far, I have found the link invite to the channel to be the most convenient; it would have been annoying if they had restricted you to navigate through Facebook.

• Sticky notes and cursor tracking. One of the coolest features of the site was the ability to create sticky notes on the page your channel is currently on. Any member of the channel can update a sticky note (then it becomes labeled with recent updater’s name on top). Even more fascincating is that the channel tracks members’ cursor movements, so you can see what your friends are doing on the page. The most practical use I can imagine for this cursor tracking would be pointing to an area of text on the page for another member. Of course, beyond pragmatism, this ability also immerses both online experiences together, making you feel perhaps a little closer to other members on the channel. It might be a nice touch in a long distance relationship.

Problems I’ve Had with the Service
While the features on Channel.me are all nice and fancy, the service still has a large amount of serious issues that need to be resolved soon. I don’t want to be too critical because the site is still in beta, but for those looking to try out the service now, expect the following issues to occur:

• Not a seamless transition between pages on the channel. I’ve noticed a few issues in this area of the service. Sometimes I will click to a new link, and everyone on the channel will arrive to the new page except for me. Other times, we all have to refresh the channel to reach the new page. Usually refreshing the channel will ensure everyone is on the same page, but you would think a web-experience-sharing service would be much more seamless.

• Videos don’t always play together. YouTube is your best bet. There were a couple times in which I clicked a video to have it start playing, and it actually starting playing for everyone on the channel. Even on YouTube, this didn’t happen often. If you are trying to play an embedded video from a site, the chances are even slimmer.

• Unreliable chat. This probably has to do with the first point mentioned above. Not only would it be difficult to get every member of the channel on the same page, it was also difficult to determine who was in the channel. Also, the channel chat was glitchy at best; sometimes it wouldn’t register anything I typed into the chat.

Is This Really the Next Step in Web Sharing?
Over the last couple years, we’ve seen quite a few web-experience sharing services all contending to deliver the ultimate, live online experience with you and your friends and colleagues. Some are social bookmarking services, others are media storage and sharing services, and this one is a media streaming and sharing service in which you literally stream the internet through one channel with a group of people.
If you don’t have a webcam and microphone, this service would seem pretty ideal for sharing a mutual online experience. It would seem most practical for situations requiring close evaluation of one website (perhaps a group critique on a new website about to launch). However, in the grand scheme of just sharing interesting/funny articles, images, and videos on the internet, the process of this service seems to get in the way of the experience itself.

Even if there weren’t any bugs in Channel.me, I still think I would prefer sharing links to websites through instant messengers than using this channel service. If I want to share a direct web experience with someone, I would rather do it with their voice on the line. If the service also allowed voice and video communication, I could see it having some more steam by the time of its launch. At the moment, however, Google Hangouts seems to be doing this service almost flawlessly.

Under the Gun, Facebook Relents on Privacy

Facebook is a useful platform, be it finding your oldest (nowhere to locate) pal or a distant relative living miles away. The flexibility and user-friendly interface it provides has given this social networking site an edge over others in the industry. It enjoys being one of the most popular social networking platforms. Owing to the user-friendly applications, it seeks revenue from more than 800 million users who play games, display photos and interact using the site. But the recent security issues have given Facebook a reason to revise its privacy policy. And there could be more than what actually seems a simple platform.

While a site may not be intended to harm anyone intentionally, there is large possibility of it getting misused for one reason or another. The Federal Trade Commission has come in talks with Facebook, revealing a concern to revamp its privacy policy. The Federal Trade Commission has found that the social networking site violated users’ privacy when it changed default privacy settings. This change disclosed more user information than was previously available to the public, making it more susceptible to be misused.

The agreement directed Facebook to get user’s approval before sharing material(s). There is probability of an annual review of the privacy practices being done autonomously. The concern arises out of a complaint filed by the Electronic Privacy Information Center in year 2009. The complaint pointed to users revealing crucial data like profile photos, names, lists of friends, network they belong to, etc. This seems a crucial issue for the good-will and revenue generating capacity which Facebook enjoys in the social media market. There could be substantial loss of revenue, leading to gain for other popular networking sites like Twitter.

Such a security breach can be discouraging for the users, prompting them to opt out of this networking site. The possibility of misusing personal data only enhances if such issues remain unattended for long. This complaint was attended to by attempting to close the accounts responsible for breaching. The susceptibility to viruses may be detrimental to users. They may opt not to use this platform at all. For others, the new changes may seem biting. Although the changes done by Facebook can be frustrating for its users, they are meant for the betterment. Users now have the options of revealing their private information either to select categories or keep them restricted. This, apparently, avoids the possibility of the data getting misused by hackers.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, the social networking site is working to eliminate all the violating materials from its site. Protecting its users’ private policy is of utmost concern. Facebook is taking the necessary steps to identify the culprit(s) and limit the damage to the minimum.

However, experts are not ruling out the possibility of another troubling attempt. And it would not be surprising to find an elevated hitch. Only if Facebook prepares in advance to combat another spam! The developers find a wide scope in Facebook when creating games and applications. But the flexibility can be an invitation to hackers all over. It becomes essentially important to ascertain the credibility of programmers. Security should not be the price for convenience.

There is a “Privacy” link at the bottom of every Facebook page. The page is linked to “A guide to privacy on Facebook,” which describes the current functions and policies. You can use the “Preview my profile” option to know the appearance of your profile on the website. This could help you in keeping track of the information you want others to view (and hide).

HTC Edge Could Be the World’s First Quad-Core Smartphone

HTC is all set out to take an edge over other mobiles, as the HTC Edge is being touted as the world’s first
quad core smartphone. It seems to be the most advanced smartphone of all times with unbelievable
features, if you go by the recent technology news.

The HTC Edge has a supposedly stark resemblance to the HTC Rezound with the inner build having
similar tech specs. It comes with 1GB RAM and internal storage could reach to as much as 32 GB. It also
has an 8 megapixel camera that is 28 mm thick, fitted with F/2.2 lens and the Beats Audio enhancement
package.

However, the external design has been given a complete makeover with a relatively large 4.7 inch
screen with 720 pixel HD capabilities. That gives it more screen space and clarity while viewing. The
Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor boasts of supersonic speeds of 1GHZ in each of its four core processors.
The pleasant part is that all this is being given in a micro package that is just 19mm thin! The Tegra 3
processor has been upgraded to give speed that is doubly faster than its predecessor that is faster than
even the Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 chip. Despite all these advantages, there has been no compromise on
the battery life and we can even go on to state that the Tegra 3 drains lesser battery life than the Tegra 2.

The HTC Edge also gives a 21 megabit per second HSDPA connectivity with not much change in the LTE
capability (which is the same as the HTC Rezound). It will reportedly be packed with the latest Android
OS 4.0, the Ice-Cream Sandwich as it is scheduled to roll out into the markets in the first quarter of next
year. Other additional attractions will be the HTC Listen Music Store, HTC Play gaming station, HTC Read bookstore, and the HTC Watch movie portal. What’s more, The HTC Edge might even be the first HTC smartphone to carry the Sense4.0, HTC’s latest custom software.

Everyone’s now waiting with bated breath to see whether the quad core HTC Edge can take on the
mighty laptops and promise to be a giant leap in mobile technology that goes smaller and more compact
as days go by. One worry is that being a quadcore, it may eat up on the battery life with its large screen,
even though the Tegra 3 is believed to take up less battery power than the Tegra 2 processor.

Final Take

The HTC Edge promises to be a great alternative to the bulky laptop as it will reportedly possess the
same capabilities within a small package that can be easily carried and used anywhere and everywhere.
With a remarkably large screen, two extra core processors, it seems to be one of the most awaited
smartphone in the mobile industry. This smartphone is being rumored as the very first quad core
smartphone ever to be released in the market. Let’s hope the HTC Edge revolutionizes the way
smartphones work with its supersonic quad core processors offered on a tiny and palm held device of 10
mm.

Google+ vs. Facebook

Even as adoption of Google Plus by new users seems to be slowing down a bit less than three months
after its launch in June 2011, the experts are yet undecided as to who will win the battle for number one
place in the social networking arena, Google Plus or Facebook. The bitter lessons that the Internet giant
learned in the social media space with Google Buzz and Google Wave may stand it in good stead, but
in the modern open source age, lessons are really out there for all to learn. Facebook’s privacy controls
debacle has not resulted in a significant drop in active users, following a concerted campaign to educate
them about existing and new features.

Look at how the two social networking platforms stack up against each other when compared from an
end-user perspective.

1. A suite of web services versus a standalone social network.

Facebook, a social network has become a part of our daily lives. While, the highest number of Google
Plus adopters were existing users of other Google services, such as Gmail, Picasa, Google Reader, and
Google Docs. The reason was the ease with which this social networking platform allowed all these
services to be integrated into one place. In addition, for people not using the other web services, joining
Google Plus gives instant and single log-in access not only to all of the services, but also allows users to
use features of other services without actively using them. Google has also cleverly repackaged other
services and built them into Google Plus in a similar way, such as multi-user text and video chat, and a
feed reader in the form of the Sparks feature.

2. Multi-user real time video chat.

The “next big thing” was due in the realm of video chat for quite a while, but no one had really
anticipated the top grade multi-user video chat that came with Google Plus. With surprising image and
streaming quality even on middle of the road broadband line, Hangout really pushes the envelope as far
as technical finesse is concerned. Even though, Facebook came out with a plain vanilla video chat option
soon after, Google has gained the lead as far as this aspect is concerned.

3. Privacy features out in public.

Many observers ascribe the phenomenal early adoption rate of Google Plus to the privacy issues with
the Facebook way of sharing everything with everyone by default. Google Plus circumvents this with
the concept of independent Circles of contacts, letting you share specific content with particular sets
of people. Facebook has a similar level of sharing control called lists, but this was something that many
people were either unaware of or found complicated to access and utilize. Of late, though, Facebook has
begun putting its privacy tweaks out in the open in an attempt to reassure its users.

4. A difficult to beat network in terms of numbers.

Facebook has the incredible advantage of 750 million users, something that Google Plus can only look
at longingly for the near future. With this huge user base and a seven-year lead in the social networking
field, Facebook is at a clear advantage.

5. Innovative users find hidden value in Google Plus.

The fact that Google is often seen as the lone voice in the wilderness against the evil empire of
corporate monopoly has seen a greater adoption of its services by the creative, alternative-lifestyle
population. One of the first trends that set Google Plus apart from Facebook was the innovative ways
that people began using the features on it, from real time video blogging and collaborative writing, to using the streams as classrooms, life-hack tutorials and discussion centers.

At the end of an unbiased pros and cons analysis, it is clear that for those wanting to get on to the social
network to find and reconnect with long lost school friends and family members, Facebook is still the
preferred destination with its sheer volume of users. To date, there has been little in terms of front page
features that set the Stream of Google Plus apart from Facebook’s Wall. The privacy control offered
by Circle is really just a tweak on the List feature, and with the new campaign to promote its privacy
features, Facebook is fast shedding its risky image. For those who migrated to Google Plus thinking it is
a more serious platform, well, you might not have noticed the games tab that has shown up over the
last month! However, the video chat feature in Google Plus is really cool, and it will take some effort to
match it. For users already on other Google services, there is a lot of comfort in this Taco-Bell-meets-
KFC application. But other than these two, there is little to write home about as far as Google Plus is
concerned. For all purposes, both these giants are equally placed in the battle for the social media log-
ins.
